History of Komodo National Park
Komodo National Park was established in 1980 with the primary goal of protecting the Komodo dragon (Varanus komodoensis), which is only found on a few islands such as Komodo, Rinca, and Padar. The discovery of the Komodo dragon first caught the world’s attention in 1910 when a Dutch officer heard about “land crocodiles” living on remote islands.
